The Programs that are involved in this event, are striving to make a difference in the community. Through a PT ruck march, Soldiers will have the opportunity to fill their rucks with canned goods that will then be donated to the food pantry, supplying families with food after the holidays.
The “Ruck out of the Dark” slogan will be used to encourage Soldiers to ruck from the darkness of suicidal thoughts and depression many Service Members suffer from in the winter months and to ruck into the light of comradery and brotherhood that our Army provides. Conducting a foot march can build readiness as well as comradery which can create a sense of family and belonging that can combat suicidal thoughts and convince Service Members that they are not alone in their fight.
The participants will conduct a 2.3-mile ruck march around Warrior Hills Golf Course during PT hours (0630-0800). After the ruck march, will have each ruck weighed. The unit with the highest weight will be granted a 4-day by the Commanding General of the Installation, General Curl. The food in the ruck sacks will then be donated to the Main Post Chapel’s Food Pantry for service members and families to use if they are in need.
